The first reactions of the refreshed pre-jury members, presented earlier on this page, following the decision.
TÍMEA TÁNCZOS: It seems to me that this year all the filmmakers have been on the ground of realism, with fewer truly „shocking” films. But that’s not a bad thing, because in many cases I found clear and beautiful dramaturgical solutions, important themes, contemporary dilemmas and intense, sometimes unresolved emotions.
ANNAIDA OROSZ: In the most memorable pieces of this year’s animations, the absurdities of the present day come back, whether in the form of our life under Covid, spiced up with quarantine rules and masks, or in the form of more abstract stories and animated characters.
ÁGNES BÖJTE: Everything connects. Everything separates. Our anxieties, our desires, our fears, our pains, our losses, our loves are all universal. In the tinyness of the characters in this year’s films, we can also recognise ourselves, and there is always something relieving in that.
ÁBEL POKORNI: Frustration, anger, aggression and many disappointments. That’s what we get from the world today. And that’s partly what we get from today’s films, but in a coherent, interpreted form, sometimes with a touch of humour. It is frightening to see how similarly French, Iraqi, Russian or Mexican films see the world and its problems.
LEVENTE GALAMBOS: Audiences will be served to a rich menu this year: deep human situations, grotesque humour and sensitising stories tastefully presented.
